muscle building
Building muscle can be difficult if you approach it the wrong way. If you want to build muscles then there are two ways you can go about it; you can either just jump right in while hoping for the best or you can use the principles that have been tested and proved to help you build muscle. The second approach makes a lot more sense because it will save you a lot of time and wasted energy. Here are just some of the most important muscle building principles.
- Your body needs nutrients in order to build muscle. In other words if you starve the body while working with weights you are not going to have much success. Those who hope to lose weight and build muscle need to have a balanced approach where they are consuming a diet appropriate for their muscle growth.
- The body needs resting periods after a workout because it is during this time when muscle is built. If you don’t allow for recovery time then you will struggle to get much out of workouts. Many body builders will have a routine whereby they rotate the muscle groups they are working on from one session to the next – thus allowing for recovery time.
- When working on muscle building exercise your aim is to do enough repetitions for the muscle tissue to rip at a microscopic level. It is this ripping and repairing of muscle tissue that causes muscles to grow. If your weight training workouts are not intense enough for this ripping of tissue to occur then you are unlikely to get effective results. Your muscles need to be constantly stressed for them to grow – just repeating the same movements and staying in your comfort zone is a waste of time.
- It is important to have a strategy and record your progress. If you don’t have some type of plan then you are likely to just approach your training haphazardly. Think about long term goals and who you are going to reach them. Make sure that you are improving all the time and finding new challenges. It is a good idea if you can get the assistance of a personal trainer – or else a very good muscle building text book program.
- Building muscle does require pushing hard a lot of the time but don’t overdo it. A lot of people rush into weights and go a bit crazy for about a week – they can’t keep this level of energy up though and so will either get bored or end up getting injured. Remember that it is going to take time to build up muscle; work consistently but don’t become overambitious in the beginning.
- Stay motivated and think positively. It can often be that one last rep that you did out of pure determination that will be the charm. You are unlikely to really push the extra bit unless you are very motivated. A good attitude is as important as weights and diet for getting the body shape you want.
